Test Drive a Career in Manufacturing

Looking to start or change careers? The We Make RI manufacturing internship may be the course for you! Selected candidates work Monday through Friday, 9:30 – 2:30, learning part-time in a classroom setting. Then put your skills to use on our factory floor. Participants earn a weekly stipend, which can grow with each week, and gain real world experience to secure a full time job at the end of the program.

  • Internships start every two weeks
  • Applicants must be RI residents 18+
  • Have a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Unemployed or underemployed
  • Ready to work full-time at program completion
  • Be at least partially vaccinated against Covid

Schedule and Overview

Week 1

In Week 1, we learn the basics of manufacturing in an informal classroom setting:

  • Basic math and measurement
  • Safety Training
  • Basic assembly
  • Resume Building

 

Week 2

Training continues in week 2 on our factory floor, where you put to practice what you’ve learned. Pack real orders, perform quality control, packing, shipping, and inventory. Most importantly, get a feel for what it’s like to work in manufacturing and add experience to your resume.

 

Weeks 3 and 4

Continue gaining experience in our factory while talking with a career counselor about where you’d like to go next. Explore open jobs and speak with employers. We can help you negotiate better positions and better pay.
